On March 17-18 2004, violence
engulfed Kosovo as 50,000 Albanian extremists rioted throughout the province, attacking  Serb Orthodox churches and monasteries, as well as burning many Serbs' homes.
The map on the right shows the locations of the destroyed cultural monuments. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Near left: A Serb family in a refugee centre, having been forced to flee by a mob of rioting Albanians.
The end of July marked the opening of the rebuilt Old Bridge in Mostar,   eleven years after the original was destoyed by Bosnian Croat forces.
